Dauphin Reviews the French Infantry

Louis, Dauphin of France[1] (4 September 1729 – 20 December 1765) Conducted a review of the French troops that were "gathering" at Lille today April 11, 1757. His father Louis XV was not in attendance and would not/did not approve of his son's interest in military affairs. The 27 year old, Louis, Dauphin of France made the excuse that he wished to visit his regiment, Dauphin (16th regiment) before it started the campaign.

In the field at Lille were 20 regiments (besides native French the force also included foreign regts. of Swiss, Irish, and Germans) in total 43 bns. or 26,760 men (2,676 figures). There were no artillery or cavalry present. This force was only half of the eventual army to invade the Rhine and included very few Reichsarmee troops as they were still massing in the various and numerous principalities/kingdoms.

2 Swiss Brigades (8 bns) are in the front.

Also notice the Irish brigade behind and the Grenadiers de France in front.

Final shot of the "Dauphin, Irish, and Grenadiers"
The "Dauphin of France" expressed a desire to march with his regiment in the upcoming campaign.!

With 2600+ figures completed...it still leaves about 4400 to be completed.  So far I paint about 360 figures a week.
The rest of the regts...both French and Reichsarmee infantry have been "selected" and their command stands are raised (painted). The cavalry has also been "selected" and command stands are finished. There will be 42 cavalry regts with between 28 and 32 figures in each regt....with 1 regt. of 48 figures.
I am beginning to have some "eye fatigue" but I am still on schedule to be finished by July 11. With a lot of the infantry done (2600+) and all the command stands painted (another 35 infantry regts.) I should make my deadline.
